If you have checked out my blog in recent months, you will have noticed a few articles on how to plan your deck. Although I will continue to give you my personal insights on deck building, I recently ran across an excellent course-called Deck Building 101, through my friends, at Simpson-Strong-Tie Co.
You need to register on their site, by creating a user name and password, but even this old goat, can figure out how to do that, lol! (They say the online course takes about an hour).
Here’s what Simpson says about their course on their site:
Course Description
| Deck Building – Beginner Online Course This Deck 101 course covers the basics of deck building, including the critical connections involved in deck construction and related code requirements per the International Building CodeĀ® (IBC) and International Residential CodeĀ® (IRC). It also reviews connector and fastener selection, load capacity, corrosion issues and deck inspection. The course is intended to help lumber dealers, contractors starting in the business, landscape architects and do-it-yourselfers ensure decks are safe, strong and code compliant. I may even give it a gander to see what’s new! To view the course and register go to Simpson-Strong Tie Co. |
