The latest NADRA Newsletter, contains information about the new Simpson Strong-Tie rated screws, that are code approved to replace nails in certain situations.
The area where this may be really handy- for the contractor and DIY alike, is in installing Simpson Strong-Tie fasteners, such as joist hangars and the like.
Here is what Simpson has to say about their new product:
The SD screw features an optimized shank which is specifically designed to match the fastener holes in Simpson Strong-Tie connectors. The hex head virtually eliminates cam-out and helps avoid stripping of the head. The sharp point of the screw enables fast starts, and the serrated threads reduce torque for improved drivability.
